Desenne, P. - Gurrufio

The Gurrufio is a simple toy made of a flattened bottle cap, perforated with two holes and placed on a string loop. The cap spins back and forth as the wound string is pulled by both hands, opening and closing, tensioning and releasing. When the bottle cap spins, the friction with the air makes it sing. The rougher the edges, the louder the sound. The flute whistle-effect in the piece is an imitation of the Gurrufio's short whistle-burst sound. The polyrhythmic textures of the piece are inspired by the Venezuelan music genres.
