TRIAL DETAILS
Prior to sending instruments on trial, we require a valid credit card number to be on file, as well as a signed trial authorization agreement. Trials are complimentary but recipients are responsible for any trial-related shipping charges. The credit card on file will be charged accordingly (see below). The recipient is responsible for the shipping charges to return the items to Flutistry Boston, as we do not provide the return label. In the unlikely event of damage to the instrument, all repairs will also be charged to your credit card at our standard repair rates. If the instrument is not returned at the end of the trial period, the card on file will be charged.
SMART SEARCH
Start your search by Maximizing your Artistry, Resources and Timing. That's the acronym behind our SMART search method that will guide you through the buying process. Knowing your artistic goals and familiarizing yourself with your available resources will make finding your voice smoother, more efficient and give you the confidence to know that you've made the decision that's right for you at the right time.
While trying instruments whenever the opportunity presents itself is important (and fun!), it is essential to pursue a discriminating search with the knowledge and resources you need to make an informed and thoughtful decision. Starting a serious search with a complete picture of what is involved will help you to secure a unique instrument that's right for you!
M is for Maximize!
Make the most of your search by maximizing your Artistry, Resources and Timing. When each element falls into place, you'll know it's time to schedule your instrument trial.
A is for Artistry. Every artist has their own set of goals when getting a new instrument. Do you want more flexibility or a more complex sound? Are you looking to be competitive in an audition? Who is your audience? Exploring the many options available begins with knowing yourself as an artist, no matter your level, and what you hope to achieve.
R is for Resources. Gathering the essential resources required to secure your next instrument will enable you to maximize your search. Learn about your financing options, discuss your needs with family & loved ones, ask for guidance from your colleagues & mentors, and spend time with a member of the Flutistry Boston team and our comprehensive inventory to understand the possibilities.
T is for timing. When do you need the instrument? When can you arrange a trial with trusted ears to help you understand your potential on each combination? When (and how) are the necessary finances available? Having answers to these essential questions will enable you to keep the winning combination.
S.A.F.E. TRIAL
The most prominent component of your voice is your sound. You might find that the air and embouchure needed to maximize each instrument is different than what you're used to, so take the time to explore each of your options and consider guidance from your network of informed experts. You'd be surprised what you can discover with a little experimentation!
Articulation gives clarity to your voice. Remember the air and placement of the tongue may need to be adjusted for each combination to ensure clarity is achievable with a little extra attention to detail. Test in the low, middle and high range at different speeds and dynamics.
Now that you've established a sense of how each combination presents Sound and Articulation respectively, it's time to push each instrument to the extremes of dynamics, range, intonation and colors to discover your potential for flexibility.
physical and sonic experience playing an instrument is different than your audience's experience. Knowing your artistic goals will allow you to balance your experience driving your instrument with that of your audience. EXPERIENCE Use our Score Cards in conjunction with these SAFE trial elements to score your combinations as both Artist-as-Performer and Artist-as-Listener to assess each combination and its potential to be an artistic match.
